Just to be clear, THIS IS NOT MY GALANT VR4. This is the car that I helped convince @tsiss350 to buy, well to be clear he didn’t need much coaching. This car had !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to it by the previous owner, who is a great guy and we’re totally friends with him. So it sucks when stuff like this happens. This gem of a car, saved from perhaps certain death by part out, but it has a bad ticker.

Kinja'd!!!

See that little sliver of bearing on the #4 rod, this thing started rapping like Kanye. Bummer man.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve seen worse, but whatever it happened. Time for a new (used) short block, that we will carefully check the oil gaps on. The damaged short block will be removed and rebuilt with a special project in mind... so all is not lost.

Kinja'd!!!

Already have every thing loose, just waiting on some parts. While I hate seeing my best friend spend extra money he didn’t want to, I do really enjoy this type of work. I hate when ole rod comes knocking.

Very glad it was saved from what I am sure would have been a most brutal part out. Everyone wants their VR4 practically mint

Time to hit up dsmtuners classifieds you’ll have another reinforced six bolt in no time.

No fog lights :(. I’m guessing they went missing for bigger FMIC piping, but still I love my fogs, I’d never delete them.

When I was scrolling, I paused and thought “Hey that’s my car!” cool to see another GVR4, to bad it’s hurt, but cool that your fixing it up. Mine needs a ton of work, but it’s still a fun little car. My biggest complaints are the seats and their lack of bolstering, and the gas mileage. Mine gets 14-18 on average, but I think thats not normal.

That is def not normal. With a good tune you should see close to 30 on the highway.

Awesome! the car just looks so good with them on at night. When I first got my car I tried to test them out and they wouldn’t come one, I was pretty bummed until I realized I had accidentally turned my bights on.

My gets about 25-28 on a stock 14b, off boost at highway speeds. Dip into the boost, which I have at 15psi and it’s a different story.

I’m sad that it needs a new motor so soon, but happy that I was able to assist with the acquisition. The Comanche has started spewing oil, so that’s something I need to look into (not you guys’ fault). But at least it still runs. Good luck with the rebuild!

yap at one point when my tune was perfect I got 26/28ish highway with a big 16G, also probably benefitting from a 1G’s surprisingly efficient aerodynamics. Whenever I got on it, esp in my hilly city limits @ 20psi its more like 10mpg ha

It kinds sucks because 4g63 tuning can be simple other than when all the forums insist you drop $500-700 on dsmlink, not including a wideband sensor, and someone to tune it.

Personally I’d just go with a chipped ecu fom ecmtuning or dsmchips, fresh injectors and a bigger fuel pump to support em. 2nd stage is just a wideband and fuel tweaking piggyback.

...and seafoam before all that. Apparently the engines really like it and perform better after. After swapping out my old intake and seeing what gunky blowthrough was allowed back into these classic turbo engines I can see why.

This horrifies me. I’m almost done with my 4G63 build and this is really the only thing I’m afraid of.

Did you check the oil clearance of the bearings with plastigage ?

Yep, we checked, adjusted, and checked some more. I still have an irrational fear of the damn thing just exploding on first use.
